Thanksgiving EditionThanksgiving editionSo… turkeys done, some of the relatives have stuck around for extra family time- what to do? We have some amazing suggestions for family fun.

Go Get Your Tree- here is a list of great local farms for claiming  and cutting down the fir, spruce,  or pine of your dreams.

Older children (and some moms and dads) will love the recently released Justice League and Thor:Ragnarok.

Visit Diagon Alley- for one day only the town of Newton NJ will transform itself into a Harry Potter fan destination Spring St. in Newton will transfigure itself into Diagon Alley, the quirky marketplace from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. the event includes  about 25 shops in Newton’s main business district. You and your little ones can participate in themed activities like getting sorted into one of Hogwarts’ four houses, taking quidditch lessons or trying your hands at potion making. The magical festivities will begin after the town’s annual holiday parade, which makes the trip to Newton a day well-spent. (Or, if you have a time-turner, a never-ending festival of fun!)

See a Museum Christmas display- A 13 ft tree covered in almost 1,000 origami creations plus folding lessons from Origami USA at the Museum of Natural History (starts 11/20) and the Christmas Tree and Baroque Crèche at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (starts 11/25) This enormous tree supports over fifty large angels. The luxurious and colorful costumes are enriched by jewels, embroideries, and elaborate accessories, including gilded censers, scimitars and daggers, and silver filigree baskets.

All aboard for the annual Holiday Train Show at the NY Botanical Garden opening 11/22. Enchanting model trains zip through a display of 150 landmarks, each re-created with bark, leaves, and other natural materials. This year’s exhibition showcases Manhattan’s iconic skyscrapers and other architectural wonders, featuring new replicas of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, General Electric Building, and St. Bartholomew’s Church.

On Saturday November 25th get an insider’s look at the magnificent Grand Central Station with a Scavenger Hunt -discover hidden history, cool places, little-known passageways, and surprising sights in the amazing landmark terminal. The hunt is almost entirely indoors, and Grand Central is climate-controlled
