Friday December 1st 6:00 PM -9:00 PM The Hoboken Historical Museum hosts Kids Night at the Museum is a chance for kids ages 5 and up to leave their parents at home and have their own night of fun! Kids can spend the evening at the Hoboken Historical Museum and enjoy games, arts and crafts, a scavenger hunt, pizza and popcorn, and a movie! The cost is $25 per child, $20 for members’ children
Now until December 30th Mon-Fri 11:00 AM -4:00 PM and Saturday-Sunday 2:00 pm-4:00 pm (30 minutes from Hoboken & JC) If a trip to the NY Botanical Garden Train show is too much for your little train lover head over to The Barron Arts Center in Woodbridge for their Holiday Model Train Show. The display of more than 300 feet of track features a moving operating playground and three towns including Main Street U.S.A., a small town in the snowy mountains, the boardwalk with a Ferris wheel and a Tilt-A-Whirl surrounded by an operating monorail. Eleven different trains are used in the display with four trains operating at all times.
Saturday December 2nd 10:00 AM -11:30 AM What would the holidays be without evergreens? Come on out to Liberty State Park for an evergreen investigation. Learn how to identify different types of evergreens and about the valuable role these trees play in nature. The walk will begin at the Park Office located at 200 Morris Pesin Drive. Saturday December 2nd 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Learn a new indoor sport! You’re invited to the grand opening event for the Wang Chen Table Tennis Club in Jersey City, where everyone from absolute beginners to pros can improve their table tennis skills with help from world class instructors. It’s free to watch, $8 an hour to play.
Saturday, December 2nd at 2:15 pm, 3 pm and 3:45 pm Save a species! Get Free passes to the Discovery Room at the American Museum of Natural History on a first-come, first-served basis to learn about a hidden gem of the Museum, the Ambrose Monell Cryo Collection, which houses a vast library of frozen tissues from bald eagles to humpback whales. Using liquid nitrogen, this highly organized cryogenic collection allows for long-term DNA (and RNA) preservation. Join Curatorial Assistant Nisa Beceriklisoy to learn about species loss and conserving genetic information. Children age 7 and up are invited to discover how Nisa helps preserve our tissue samples and keeps them organized, and how other scientists contribute to and learn from our library.
Saturday December 2nd 1:00 PM-4:00 PM Families can work together to create paper peace lanterns and bring tidings of peace on earth and good health and cheer to all at this holiday event at the 9/11 Tribute Museum. Interfaith leaders representing Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Native American communities will each offer a short prayer calling for peace and happiness. FREE. Ages 4 and up.
Saturday and Sunday December 2nd & 3rd 12:00 PM -2:00 PM (30 minutes from Hoboken/JC) It’s a Charlie Brown Christmas! For kids of all ages, the Peanuts gang is sure to entertain in Mystic Vision Players’ stage version of everyone’s favorite holiday television special. Join Charlie Brown and all the Peanuts gang as they produce their own Christmas pageant and ultimately learn the true meaning of Christmas. To bring Christmas joy to others, they will be collecting new and unwrapped toys and gifts for women, teens and children for the YWCA Union County Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter’s Project North Pole. Gift bags, tape & wrapping paper are also appreciated. You can bring any donations to all performances.

Sunday December 3rd 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (40 minutes from Hoboken/JC) Brave the cold for some outdoor fun during Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s wintry events for all ages on the first Sunday of December. When cabin fever hits the family, explore the garden’s landscape on a nature walk with naturalist Bradley Klein, as he points out birds, mammals, and insects that remain active during the season. Then little ones can enjoy special hands-on discovery workshops and storytime.
Sunday December 3rd 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM (30 minutes from Hoboken/JC) One of the MOST unique events of the Holiday season- Join the folks at the Westfield YMCA for a Swim with Santa Come as a family! Participants choose a 30-minute time slot to swim with Santa and his elves. A parent or guardian must be in the pool with children under age 8 or children who can’t swim. Before or after your time in the pool, enjoy more fun with Santa in the Arts & Crafts room. Registration is open to members and non-members online or in-person at the Welcome Center. This year, the festivities are dedicated to Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. There will be strolling musicians, costumed characters like Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Past, and opportunities for tots to dress up in literary ensembles. Don’t miss out on the festive craft workshop or the chance to peep the iconic story’s original manuscript! Ages 3 to 12. $20 Adults, $13 Seniors, free for children 12 and under.
