Area weather calls for sun ALL weekend! Yay! Here are some great ways to get outside and enjoy the weather.

Saturday July 8 10:00 am-8:00 pm Shake a leg and grab a rib at the Front Porch Bluegrass and Pig Roast Festival in Chester this weekend. The event is free and features live music, crafts vendors and an auction to benefit a mission trip to Central Appalachia to help to make homes there safer, warmer, and drier

Saturday July 8 11:00 am -12:00 pm Hans Christian Andersen Storytelling. Sit beneath the Hans Christian Andersen statue at the Conservatory Pond in Central Park (entrance at 72nd Street)  to hear his tales such as The Ugly Duckling and other classic children’s stories told by a fine ensemble of storytellers.

Saturday July 8 11:00 am-12:00 pm Mad Science Summer Camp at Garden State Plaza. Each Saturday (through August 30th) Mad Science of Northeast NJ will host a high energy demonstration of fun, education and spectacular science experiments! Admission is free for children of all ages. Please RSVP ahead and arrive 15 minutes early as seating is limited. There’s also a VIP pkg. that benefits St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Pay just $10 per child and receive a make and take craft, led spinner an AMC theater ticket and more.

Saturday & Sunday July 8 & 9 11:00 am- 8:00 pm Go Jump in the Lake– The Highlands Natural Swimming Pool in Ringwood, NJ (less than an hour’s drive!)  offers an Olympic-sized, stream-fed freshwater swimming pool (no chemicals!) and a 5,400 acre park to hike and picnic in. Weekend day passes are just $13 for adults and $10 for kids 12-17  and $3 for kids under 12. Cash Only!

Saturday & Sunday July 8 & 9 10:00 am- 5:00 pm Spend a Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine! Ride the Delaware River Railroad in Phillipsburg, NJ (about an hour and 15 minutes from Hoboken) with classic storybook friend Thomas the Tank Engine. The train pulled by Thomas leaves every hour on the hour, 10 am to 5 pm for 25 minutes of fun. Each child who rides receives a Junior Engineer Certificate.

Saturday & Sunday July 8 & 9 12:00 pm- 10:00 pm Summer is made for free music festivals and a great local one is Maplewoodstock! Headliners Los Lobos will take the stage Saturday night at 8:45 but the fest offers music all day long. The feat also features a kid zone, crafts, local craft beer garden and more than 20 food vendors. Grab your chairs and join the party!
