It’s a long weekend and there’s lots to do. How about heading into NYC? NY Waterway’s ferry service to NYC is free for kids all weekend. Interested in a last minute road trip- here are some destinations (like DC and Philadelphia) within 4 hours’ drive. You could do a day trip to ski or go snow tubing or stay local for any of the great activities below!

Saturday February 17 1:00 PM-4:00 PM (Hohokus NJ 45 minutes from Hoboken/JC) Hands-on tapping of 15 maple trees. Learn how the colonists and Lenni Lenape got their sweetener from trees. Taste syrup made from these trees last year and take home the supplies needed for your family to tap the maples in your own backyard. Also includes a tour of the National Historic Landmark where George Washington and Alexander Hamilton camped 240 years ago and where Aaron Burr met and married Theodosia Prevost. Sunday February 18th 11:00 AM -3:00 PM (Short Hills, NJ 30 minutes from Hoboken/JC) Take a HIKE! Winter is a special time at the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum in Short Hills. Join Cora’s Conservation Corps teen volunteers as they guide you through the woods and show you that winter is the best time to look for signs of wildlife. Become a Citizen Scientist and help record important data this season. This weekend learn all about Tracks and Scat! Please dress for the weather and be prepared for the outdoors and changing trail conditions. Hikes depart at 11am, 1 pm and 3 pm and will last about 45 minutes each.$10 non-members/$5 for members.

Sunday and Monday, February 18 +19 The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will host its annual Kids Week festival .Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in dozens of fun-filled activities, hands-on workshops, live performances, special guests and interactive demonstrations that the whole family will enjoy. This year, Kids Week will showcase that Science is Everywhere! Through themed performances and hands-on activities, kids can learn about the science behind their favorite sports and games, art, theater and music, nature, animals and even outer space and explore the science of sports and games. Kids can hone their fastball skills while learning about the physics of a pitch, perfect their golf swings with experts.
