Things to DO This Weekend- February 3 + 4
It’s a long weekend and there’s lots to do. How about heading into NYC? NY Waterway’s ferry service to NYC is free for kids all weekend.  Interested in a last minute road trip- here are some destinations (like DC and Philadelphia) within 4 hours’ drive. You could do a day trip to ski or go snow tubing or stay local for any of the great activities below!

Saturday February 17 11:00 AM- 4:00 PM (NYC) Fetch your friends and come on over to The Museum Of Chinese in America for a  Year of the Dog Lunar New Year Family Festival!  Enjoy Chinese zodiac arts & crafts, lively dance performances, festive snacks, and timeless tales inspired by Chinese and Chinese American New Year’s traditions. You’re in for a pawsitively good time! Tickets: $12/person, $8 for all MOCA Dual and Individual Level Members, Free for MOCA Family Level Members and above, children under 2, and Cool Culture Members. Click here to buy tickets!

Saturday February 17  1:00 PM-4:00 PM (Hohokus NJ  45 minutes from Hoboken/JC) Hands-on tapping of 15 maple trees. Learn how the colonists and Lenni Lenape got their sweetener from trees. Taste syrup made from these trees last year and take home the supplies needed for your family to tap the maples in your own backyard. Also includes a tour of the National Historic Landmark where George Washington and Alexander Hamilton camped 240 years ago and where Aaron Burr met and married Theodosia Prevost.  Saturday and Sunday February 17 + 18 at 2:00 PM (NYC) Spend an Arabian Night at the Galli Theater. “Open Sesame.” With these words, Ali Baba opens a mysterious mountain and finds great treasure. But his greedy brother Cassim also wants part of the treasure… bring children 4 and up to see this theatrical production of “Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves” a story of bravery and friendship. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for children.

Saturday and Sunday February 17 + 18  Two sessions daily 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM-7:00 PM  (NYC) Lego LIVE NYC is an official LEGO Event and for the first time… it’s in Manhattan. It is the first event of its kind and is a must for LEGO fans. Enjoy designing, creating, and playing with millions of bricks. Experience endless building and creating with all your favorite LEGO  brands. Tickets start at $30 and may be purchased online.

Saturday,  Sunday & Monday  February 17, 18 + 19   at 10;30 AM, 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM Jump to the beat with your friends on Sesame Street at the Theater at Madison Square Garden! Introducing an all-new, interactive show that unfolds on one of the world’s most famous streets at the funniest, furriest party in the neighborhood… get ready for Sesame Street Live! Tickets start at $35

Sunday February 18th 11:00 AM -3:00 PM (Short Hills, NJ 30 minutes from Hoboken/JC) Take a HIKE! Winter is a special time at the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum in Short Hills. Join Cora’s Conservation Corps teen volunteers as they guide you through the woods and show you that winter is the best time to look for signs of wildlife. Become a Citizen Scientist and help record important data this season. This weekend learn all about Tracks and Scat! Please dress for the weather and be prepared for the outdoors and changing trail conditions. Hikes depart at 11am, 1 pm and 3 pm and will last about 45 minutes each.$10 non-members/$5 for members.

Sunday, February 18th shows at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM – (Englewood, 30 minutes from Hoboken/JC)  Bergen PAC presents Mr. Popper’s Penguins, the story of painter and decorator Mr. Popper and his adventures with a penguin that arrives at his doorstep. With original songs and performing penguin puppets, this is a delightful, action-packed adaptation of Richard and Florence Atwater’s popular book. Tickets start at $15
