We’ll go a little out of order to call out the Hoboken Arts and Music Festival THIS SUNDAY on Washington Street from 11:00 AM-5:00 PM. Otherwise it’s a full schedule things to do this weekend May 5th and 6th including exploring in nature, cowboys, fainting goats, a wonderful wizard AND so much more!
Saturday May 5th 8:30 AM-10:00 AM (Summit 38 minutes from Hoboken/JC) The Reeves Reed Arboretum offers a class for girls 8-12 years old: Gratitude Attitude – Having Eyes for the Gifts. In this class, young girls have the opportunity to create lifelong gratitude habits that can become routine and second nature. This can lead to increased happiness, enhanced self esteem, relationship improvement and reduced complaining. In this class your girl will learn: The three components of gratitude, How to express gratitude to others and herself, How to spot the opportunities in challenging situations, Why expressing gratitude welcomes more abundance. After this class your girl will be able to acknowledge and own her accomplishments, and use this confidence to help her continue moving forward in her current and future goals and dreams.Class includes a lesson, snack (nut-free), craft and brief walk in the arboretum grounds, weather permitting. Enrollment is limited to accommodate for personal attention and growth. $40 per child.
Saturday May 5th 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (Summit 38 minutes from Hoboken/JC) Make a discovery at the Reeves Reed Arboretum and enjoy a unique family experience. Drop by the Stackhouse Education Center on Saturdays, between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm, for an interactive exploration of nature. This week- The Reason for a Flower is the discovery topic. Borrow an Arboretum backpack loaded with binoculars, field guides, a magnifying glass and everything else needed for outdoor Arboretum adventure! No pre-registration is necessary. Adults must be accompanied by a child! Best for children over 5 years of age. $5 per child. Please note that Discovery Saturdays is available in Spanish!
Saturday May 5th 10:00 AM-3:00 PM (Short Hills 37 minutes from Hoboken/JC) Beautiful Greenwood Gardens is hosting an open house Enjoy Greenwood at a reduced admission rate of $7.00. Explore the historic landscape, and meet their Tennessee Fainting goats. Refreshments will be served on the East Terrace with a view of the 2,100 acre South Mountain Reservation. Free to members; $7 non-members. Registration not required
Saturday May 5th 10:00am to 5:00pm (Lincroft 50 minutes from Hoboken/JC) Get your craft fix at the Creative Arts & Music Festival in Thompson Park. Enjoy a variety of fine artists and artisans with offerings such as mixed media, painting, photography, jewelry, pottery and more as well as live music by some of the best local musicians. Food vendors, artist demonstrations and free activities will be available throughout the day.
Saturday May 5th 11:00am to 5:00pm (Lincroft 50 minutes from Hoboken/JC)The Town of Secaucus celebrates spring with a popular, annual event The Green Festival at the Secaucus Xchange . The fair features environmental activities for children, music, pontoon boat rides, live animals, hourly educational presentations and more than 50 food and green product vendors. All ages FREE
Saturday, May 5th 12:00PM-6:00PM Cinco de Mayo Food Truck Fest (Jersey City) The Jersey City Food Truck Fest is a perfect fit for family-friendly Cinco de Mayo fun. The festival is happening in the URBY parking lot across from the Harborside Lightrail stop. Live music from 12-6 includes a mariachi band. Saturday and Sunday May 5th + 6th 9:30 AM -4:00 PM (Jersey City) Just one more week to visit everyone’s favorite tank engine at Liberty State Science Center: Thomas & Friends™ – Explore the Rails helps kids learn about science, technology, engineering and math through play. Kids can climb up into the cab of Thomas the Tank Engine to operate the controls, make repairs to Percy in the Sodor Steamworks shop, run the railroad on an enormous play table covering all of the Island of Sodor, dress up like conductors, sell tickets, and more. Saturday and Sunday May 5th + 6th 10:30 AM-6:00 PM (Brooklyn/Sunset Park 45 minutes from Hoboken/JC) Learn about public lands and waterways and how to grow foods and share foods on SWALE docking this weekend at the Brooklyn Army Terminal – Swale is a floating food forest built atop a barge that travels to piers in New York City, offering educational programming and welcoming visitors to harvest herbs, fruits and vegetables for free. Swale strives to strengthen stewardship of public waterways and land, while working to shift policies that will increase the presence of edible perennial landscapes. FREE
